Amsterdam Sevens News

Winners.
Samurai International won the 2010 Amsterdam Sevens, their sixth title in a row. They beat Millfield Old Boys in the final 44-5.

WOP, the Dutch national side, beat Spain in the final of the Ladies Sevens. The final score was 19-5.

Hi-Temp Corso Marauders won the 2010 Amsterdam Sevens Veterans 10s title. Corso have been in the final every year since the Veterans 10s became an integral part of the Amsterdam Sevens, winning the first but losing out to Wooden Spoon Vets for the last three years. This year they met Wooden spoon in a close semi-final and triumphed 15-10. In the final they played first time visitors Gameface Pacific Chiefs, including many ex-internationals such as Henry Paul, Trevor Leota and Mike Umaga. The final score was 17-14.

Weather Forecast.

Our hot and sunny forecast underestimated the heat and the sun. We met a Scots guy in the Cafe Corso during Bloody Mary Monday who works in the Middle East. He got sun stroke at the Sevens. The ash forecast was equally accurate and there was no ash anywhere.

Photographs.
We will be sending out the team photographs to the teams in electronic format soon. Meanwhile, you can check out the photographs on www.paolopolla.com. There are about 800 shots over the two days and all of the team photographs are there as well.

Amsterdam.
There is a section on the web site with some helpful hints about the nightlife in Amsterdam. Click on the Amsterdam tab. We will be adding to this. Amsterdam is looking very clean as the garbage collectors make up in overtime for the money they lost during their strike.

Scores.
Check the scores. Click on the "Fixtures and Results" tab, select the year (you can also check results from previous years) the day, the competition etc. and then click on "Create list".  Once we get to the knock-out phases on Sunday click on the Knock-out list to see all knock-out matches. Our policy of asking good referees who want to referee at the Amsterdam Sevens to contact us proved very successful alongside our pro-actively approaching referees and referees societies. If you think you are good enough to referee at the Amsterdam Sevens, get in touch.

Latest News

Mel Williamson, of Mel's Exiles fame will not be here this year for the first time in 38 years. He will be in hospital being pumped full of chemicals following the scores on the internet. Mel's Exiles will be here because when Mel rang up to pull-out a number of his friends, in particular Robbie Penris of the Hans Brinker hotel, rallied around to make sure the tradition of Mel's Exiles appearing at the Amsterdam Sevens continues. We wish Mel and Mel's Exiles all the best and we hope to see a fully restored  Mel back where he belongs next year.
